Bayt Dakira is located in the heart of Essaouira’s medina, near the Jewish quarter. It is a significant addition to the cultural landscape of the city and offers visitors an opportunity to learn about and appreciate its diverse heritage.
In addition to the permanent exhibits, Bayt Dakira also hosts temporary exhibitions, cultural events, and educational programs to engage visitors and foster understanding between different cultures and religions.
The museum aims to be a spiritual space dedicated to the Jewish community of the city. It plays an important role in the preservation and valorisation of the Moroccan Jewish memory.
Through its exhibition of rare objects, texts and photographs, the museum seeks also to show the coexistence between Muslims and Jews in the city. Visitors are greeted by the expression “Shalom Aleykoum, Salam Lekoulam” which is a mix of Arabic and Hebrew to illustrate the friendship between Jews and Muslims.
The museum includes the Simon Attias Synagogue and the Haim and Célia Zafrani Research Center on the History of Relations between Judaism and Islam.

Climb the mountain
The tour starts at 09.00am:
Accompanied by a guide, leave the city behind and head south towards the region known as the Cradle of Malbec. Set amongst gentle hills and overlooked . Shortly after leaving the city, we join Chacras’s winding road, following the famous curves until we arrive at the main square.
